What is a test knit?
A test knit serves as a check for the designer before publishing a pattern. As a rule, all sizes and all combinations for variations of a pattern are checked for validity and test knitted. Volunteer knitting enthusiasts with different levels of experience are sought for this. The test knit usually has a deadline that must be met.
sequence of a test knit
- You sign up for the test knit.
- I will let you know whether you can take part in the test knitting. Now you can start looking for the yarn you want to use to knit the project.
- On the start date, you will receive an email with an invitation to the Slack channel ( https://slack.com ) for the test knit. There you can then exchange ideas with me and the other test knitters. There you can also download the current version of the pattern.
Requirements for the test knitter
- The deadline for the test knitting must be met. Please only apply if you can devote the time.
- It is mandatory to create a Ravelry project that contains at least one photo of the project at the end of the test knitting (a photo of the project being worn is advantageous). In addition, information about the yarn should be provided, including consumption.
- An Instagram account is not a must . However, if you have one, it would be nice if the photo was shared here as well (e.g. when it was released).
- The instructions may not be modified . If you would like to make a change, please discuss it with me beforehand.
- Since the instructions are in beta stage during the test knitting, errors can occur at any time. So you may have to rib!
- A gauge sample must be made that exactly matches the one in the instructions. If there are any deviations, the sample must be stretched into the appropriate form. Incorrect gauge samples render the test useless.
Advantages for the test knitter
- Depending on whether there is a cooperation for the test knit, you will receive a discount code for the original yarn.
- As a thank you, you will receive another pattern of your choice , which you can select after the test knit.
- You will receive direct support from me and can exchange ideas with the other test knitters.
- You are directly involved in the creation process and can knit the instructions before anyone else.
- You will definitely learn a lot of new things . You will learn new techniques and can benefit directly from other knitters.
How is the selection made?
Since more and more knitters register than there are places available, unfortunately not everyone can take part. But that doesn't mean that it won't work next time. Here are a few points about how I select my test knitters:
- Level of difficulty of the instructions: For advanced instructions, for example, only advanced knitters are selected. For easier instructions, I make sure there is a good mix of beginners and advanced knitters.
- Presence and reach: Of course it is an advantage for a designer if someone takes nice photos. That's why I look at your Ravelry projects or your Instagram profile beforehand. But that doesn't mean that you necessarily have to be very active on social media. An account with a large reach is always a plus point for me. I think that's understandable. Nevertheless, I also make sure that there is a good mix here. A reliable knitter is still the most important thing!
- You have already test-knitted for me and I was very satisfied. If you apply again, the chances of being accepted again are also higher. If you generally like test-knitting and do it a lot, you can also enter your details directly in my database: click here . When a new test-knit takes place, the places will initially be filled with knitters from this list. Only then will registration be open to everyone.
- I always feel sorry when someone wants to knit and then it doesn't work out. I want to stress that it's nothing personal if you don't get elected.
Cancel test knitting
Sometimes life gets in the way and a test knitter doesn't finish or has to stop. Please contact me as soon as possible if that happens so that I can find a replacement. Even if you realize that the test knit isn't for you, you can always talk to me. I don't want anyone to feel pressured. It should be fun and bring us joy!
